Cheryl’s House is an adaptive use of space project located in Chicago, Illinois. This project is an opportunity for community members with trade skills to get involved in a neighborhood improvement. Our alternative funding mechanism increases accessibility for individuals and small business owners to become investors.
Renovation details: we are raising $500,000 to cover gut renovation and outfitting a commercial property located in 60624. Funds will cover working capital, purchasing building materials, and energy-efficient systems. The second floor three-bedroom apartment will be converted into a three-unit SRO. The commercial property will feature three 250 square feet SRO rental units, all-electric, designed to achieve high energy performance through advanced insulation, air-tight construction, and renewable energy. Plans will focus on creating an energy-efficient, sustainable commercial space that meets Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) standards. This approach aims to offer a healthier operational environment, and lower functionality costs.
Investment details: Community Partner, Revival Resources NFP (RR), will submit an application for the City of Chicago Community Development Grant. The property qualifies as a commercial, mixed-use, and social service proposed project. Debt capital raised will be reimbursed through leaseholder awardee (RR). In & By Design agree to ongoing reporting obligations and keeping investors informed about progress and performance.
